Anpu also spelled as Inpu, Ienpw or Imeut and falsely called Anubis from the Ancient Greek language. Anpu is the most important god of underworld. Anpu whose name means a jackal headed god of mummification in Kemet. Anpu was the son of Nephthys, and his father was Asar. Anubis known as Neter of Embalming, portrayed as a man with jackal head and holding scepter on his hand. He is also portrayed as a black jackal or as a black dog accompanying Isis. Anpu was the god in-charge to protect and bring the dead on their path though the afterlife. Anpu invented embalming to embalm the body of Asar (the first mummification) after he was killed by Sutukh, thus preserve him to live again. His position as god of the dead was later took over by Asar during the Middle Kingdom. Anpu statute can be found on most of the ancient tombs in Egypt cemeteries. He has many roles, where he watched over the mummification process, leads the souls of the deceased to Judgment Hall of Ma’at and monitors the Scales of Truth to protect the dead.
